Designers are experts in creating costumes, shoes and other apparels for dramatic purposes. Their job involves working closely with writers, directors, actors and a costume design team in order to make sure that the apparels required by the story, drama or screenplay match exactly what is needed.

A costume designer should be aware of what kind of clothes are appropriate for different occasions, and what type of clothing is suitable for each individual.

 He or she must also know how to dress people according to their ages, genders and personalities. 

The costume designer should understand the difference between formal and casual wear, and he or she should also be familiar with different types of clothing.

Costume designers need to be creative. They must know how to make things work out well. Their job requires them to create costumes that fit the narrative. 

They also need to draw the costumes. They sew the costumes together, and then hand-make them if the costuming needs to be very detailed.
